MILAN – The Lega Serie A has unveiled the MVPs for the 2019/20 season. Up for grabs were awards for the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward, as well as the best youngster and the MVP outright. All of the winners will receive their trophies on the pitch at the start of the 2020/21 Serie A TIM season.
The best defender during the 2019/20 campaign was Stefan de Vrij. For the second consecutive year, an Inter player has been acknowledged for having been the best in their position: last year, Samir Handanovic was recognised as the best goalkeeper during the 2018/19 campaign.
De Vrij played 34 matches in the league, starting 32 of those games. He was a central pillar in Inter’s three-man defence and stood out thanks to his excellent defensive displays. He also lent a hand in attack, scoring four (three headers and one left-footed strike), providing three assists and creating ten chances. Furthermore, he showed great composure on the ball throughout the league campaign, completing a remarkable 91.9% of his passes. He was therefore a big factor in Inter having the best defensive record in the Italian top flight and made a contribution to the Nerazzurri’s impressive goal tally (the second best in the league).

The players have been ranked according to the statistical data provided by Stats Perform with the help of the tracking data recorded by Netco Sports. All the matches played in Serie A TIM, the Coppa Italia Coca-Cola and the Coca-Cola Supercup were considered in the final assessment.
